#devops #obsidian #emacs #orgmode

My first introduction to the term Literate DevOps was via this blog post at Howardism.org. If the term is new to you then start there for an more in-depth description than "Embedding your command line work into a note".

I have recently described Obsidian as "Orgmode for non-Emacs people". And then had to explain what orgmode is...

But I digress.

I think Obsidian is a great note taking tool, and it is now embedded into my daily work. And I have found Literate DevOps to be a great way to capture the command line work that I do.

Can I combine the two?

Ideally, Obsidian would allow me to do Literate DevOps things. But, that really starts to push the envelope of what Obsidian is. For example, Obsidian is not a dedicated code editor. emacs is a much better place to be doing that.

So is there a way that the I can bring these two worlds together?

Experiment 1

The first thing I am going to try is to update my Daily Note template in Obsidian to transclude YYYY-DD-MM.org files. So, YYYY-DD-MM.md, the Obsidian note, would include and display YYYY-DD-MM.org, created and managed in emacs.
